The Louvre Museum in Paris

November 30, 2009 on 12:30 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

The Louvre Museum was constructed in 1190 as a fortified castle for Philip II, and its original relics are still held in the museum’s crypt. Four centuries of French kings lived here until 1793, when it became the home of the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, the Victory of Samothrace and other famous pieces. When it opened to the public, the Louvre Paris France held 537 paintings. Today, those who come to Paris will see more than 380,000 pieces and 35,000 works of art at the Louvre, the second-largest art museum in the world, next to Moscow’s Hermitage.

In addition to the Louvre Paris France district, another popular location that Paris offers is the Eiffel Tower Paris hotels district. Near this cultural district, guests can find government buildings, historical monuments, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin and Les Invalides nearby. The western section houses hotels that are close to the Arc de Triomphe, The Champs Elysées, Parc Monceau and the Palais des Congrès. To see the Notre Dame de Paris, travelers will want to stay north of the Seine River, where they’ll be a stone’s throw from the Pompadou Centre, Hôtel-de-Ville, Village St-Paul, Notre-Dame, the Conciergerie and Place des Vosges. The Latin Quarter of Paris is a trendy section of the city, where university students meet shoppers, bar hoppers and artists around the bohemian Paris Saint Germain neighborhood.

The Louvre Paris France museum is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Tuesday, January 1st, May 1st, November 11th, December 24th and December 25th. Extended hours are on Wednesdays and Fridays, when the museum is open until 10 p.m. The Pyramid and Galerie du Carrousel entrances are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, except Tuesday. The Passage Richelieu and Hall Napoléon close at 6 p.m. and the Porte des Lions entrance closes at 5:30 p.m. Special exhibitions like the “Gates of Heaven — Visions of the World in Ancient Egypt” are sometimes open until 8 p.m. The cost of admission to Paris museum, Louvre, is €9 for one day’s access to all exhibits. Guests can save €3 by coming Wednesdays and Sundays from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. or on the first Sunday of every month, when admission to the Louvre is free.

Gay Tours Go Above And Beyond To Entertain

November 28, 2009 on 9:21 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

All travelers face the same planning decisions, but lets face it when it comes to the gay tour, it really is necessary to plan something special. Gay and lesbian travelers enjoy seeing the sights and visiting museums, but they need something a little special in their itinerary, because like all straight people, Gay people also like to meet like-minded people in the countries they visit on vacation.

Obviously we have a great many questions which need to be asked when planning a vacation. Examples of these questions may be, how to get the best value for money, whether you want a cruise or a tour, or some other type of vacation.

We also have the right to choose who we want to travel with and in terms of tours and cruises, you are going to be sharing that traveling space with those people for the duration. You need to know you will be comfortable and that is all just a matter of choice.

Obviously the best thing to do is research well. This is vital for anyone going on vacation regardless of sexual orientation, and every choice has both pros and cons. Some people like staying in their own comfort zones when they are on tour, while others, enjoy mixing with different tourists and getting to know the locals. I am of the latter preference, I love getting to know the locals and different people, but not everyone is gregarious.

In terms of singles, a gay and lesbian tour or cruise is more than appropriate because it is a way in which you are able to make friends for life. If you are actively seeking romance, vacationing with like-minded people certainly offers a better opportunity than it would if you were with a more diverse group.

As far as the cost of tours and cruises go, because mainstream vacations such as this are  more flexible, the cost is generally much better. You will find that GTLB tours are more  expensive, but this is just par for the course, if you are more comfortable in this  setting, what’s an extra few hundred bucks?

Whatever your decision on the type of tour, seek out a destination that will be welcoming of you.  A gay holiday to Costa Rica is becoming quite popular, for example.

Sharm el Sheikh is a brilliant destination for your next holiday

November 27, 2009 on 8:46 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

Sharm el Sheikh is a purpose built holidaymaker’s paradise. All travellers will enjoy Sharm el Sheikh, as there is something for everyone. Even if you’re after the non-typical-tourist attractions, Sharm has something for you. The key to enjoying an ideal holiday experience is to choose the right place to stay - and there are certainly plenty of Sharm el Sheikh hotels to choose between.

You need to decide what it is you want to get out of your Sharm holiday. With so much to do, you will be spoilt for choice. Think about the type of memories you want to make and go from there.

Na’ama Bay is a great place to go if you’re after action and activities. It offers world-renowned beaches and first-class diving experiences. If you’re after a quieter holiday, try visiting Hadaba. Or you could try the town of Dahab, which is great if you’re after total peace and quiet.

If you want to get taste of the old Sharm then arrange a trek into the desert for an evening of local entertainment. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, take a camel ride into the desert where you can enjoy a romantic meal under the sun.

When you’ve chosen the activities you want to take part in, the next stage is to narrow down the hotels. With so many accommodation choices from small Sharm el Sheikh hotels to glittering resorts, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. A great way to find your ideal hotel is by reading online reviews other travellers have written. Having a look at reviews about specific areas and activities is also a good way to make your decision.

You can identify your perfect match by comparing options for price and availability. Have a look at an agent’s site to compare Sharm el Sheikh hotels all in one place. Some will offer search facilities to make it even easier, such as best price filters or the option to search by hotel name. Once you’ve made your decision, just sit back, relax and enjoy making the most out of your Sharm experience.

Making Accessible Travel More Accessible To The Disabled

November 26, 2009 on 4:15 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

The biggest problem with accessible travel is that it actually isn’t all that accessible. Restaurants and restrooms are simply not set up to allow for the maneuverability of a wheelchair.

The biggest problem with the travel industry is that the disability access areas are designed by able bodied people. Something relatively simple like making sure the doors are light enough to be opened by someone in a wheelchair is overlooked by the able bodied designer.  Something as simple as that could truly help make travel for the disabled more of a reality.

Often those who need a little extra assistance while traveling are denied timely access to that assistance. Airports and other forms of public transportation need better education amongst the staff  when providing assistance to the disabled. The location of access ramps, elevators, and assistance buttons are generally inconvenient enough that it can’t really be considered accessible.

What the travel industry really needs is to gather real life experience from those who have tried to navigate an airport or train station while disabled. This should come in two forms. The first is to ask those who face the disabled life on a daily basis how to make things easier for them. You would be surprised at the insight available by just going to the source.

If employees of the airports, train stations, and cab companies were all required to spend just a few days in a wheelchair navigating the area without assistance there might be some valuable insight gained. Often the travel industry is not very courteous, safety minded, or even aware when it comes to meeting the needs of those requiring assistance.

Something as simple as requiring assistance for refueling at a gas station often becomes a compromised situation. Read the fine print of the assistance sticker and it is made clear that if there is only one person on duty those needing assistance will not be helped. The gains of independence that have been made are only wiped away by society’s desire not to be asked to go out of their way to make sure that the disabled retain their independence.

Access should be easy enough to get to that those with all kinds of disabilities should be able to travel without the need for extra assistance that they would not normally require. Just because one has been struck with an illness or accident doesn’t mean that the world should be set up to work against them.

The Top Hotels to visit at Christmas time in the Tropical World!

November 25, 2009 on 7:03 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

Been thinking about the best Hotels for Christmas holidays this year? Time is running out and you don’t have time to research locations. SO here are the top 3 places in the world that you could go to for your Christmas holiday this year:

Barbados. This is for the family, the Discovery Bay by Rex Resorts, a great Christmas holiday. Although this is a top quality luxury resort, the prices are not that expensive. There are some clear and peaceful beaches, with very clear waters. Barbados is home to Bridgetown, a recommended place for all tourists to visit when they are in Barbados. The island of Barbados is considered by many people to be the Party Island of the Caribbean.

The Island that is St Lucia. The Body Holiday at Le Sport offers anyone who stays here the most luxurious accommodation. Every room in the hotel has air conditioning so you can be kept cool all day, and non stop room service. So for the laziest holiday of your life, not to mention the most relaxing one. There are a whole range of activities that you could take part in, ranging from; fencing and archery, right the way through to golfing and table tennis. Even if you don’t know any of these, you can get taught. If you have a little more money to burn, you can head down to the Capital of St Lucia, Castries, to get some much wanted shopping done This is close to St Lucia.

The Maldives. Welcome to by far the priciest of all the locations the “Lily Beach Resort and Spa”. This hotel is considered by many to be a 6 star hotel, and looking at the accommodation you won’t be surprised. If you want somewhere to stay where you can get away from people and spend a week or two in the middle of nowhere, then this is as close to heaven that you are going to get. The island is relatively small and is called “Huvahedhoo” and the hotel is actually situated on stilts over the sea. A truly amazing hotel.

Maldives holidays, Dubai holidays and Sri Lanka holidays are well on the rise and this is thanks to the holidays on offer.

Aviation - Aerospace Springs Design and Development

November 25, 2009 on 6:59 pm | In General Aviation | No Comments

Aviation - Why

Now it’s time to cover taking off in a crosswind. We’ve already discussed flying in a crosswind and how the wind blow you off course, and how you need to compensate. This, of itself is not very difficult to deal with.

What comes before this though, is Taking off!

Chrome Silicon, Chrome Vanadium .010-.500 These are higher quality, higher strength versions of Oil Tempered wire, used in high-temperature applications such as automotive valve springs. Will not generally change dimensions under heat. Can be plated.

Stainless Steel .005-.500 Stainless steels will not rust, ideal for environments containing water or condensation. 302 series stainless will expand slightly under heat: 17-7 will usually not change. Cannot be plated.

Inconel, Monel, Beryllium Copper, Phosphor Bronze .010-.125 These speciality alloys are sometimes made into springs which are designed to work in extremely high-temperature environments, where magnetic fields present a problem, or where corrosion resistance is needed in a high-temperature working environment. They are much more costly than the more common stocks and cannot be plated. They generally will not change dimensions under heat.

Titanium .032-.500 is common in aircraft because of its extremely light weight and high strength, titanium is also extremely expensive and dangerous to work with as well: titanium wire will shatter explosively under stress if its surface is scored. Generally will not change dimensions under heat. Cannot be plated.

Titanium is the strongest material, but it is very expensive. Next come chrome vanadium and chrome silicon, then music wire, and then oil tempered wire. The stainless and exotic materials are all weaker than the rest.

The danger of a crosswind is two-fold. It is going to try to blow us away from the center line and off the runway, and it is going to try to get under the upwind wing and flip the plane over.

To compensate for this, we want to turn the aileron so that the wind has as little impact on the upwind wing, so we turn so that the upwind aileron is pointing up. It is best to get a visual on this, as opposed to just guessing which way to turn.

No, as you start, you have full deflection - you have turned as hard as you can. As you take off, you will lessen this so that you are turned about 45 degrees. You will lessen it more and more as you gain speed, but as you approach take-off speed you want the yoke to be still turned slightly into the wind.

You will maintain direction with the rudder using the rudder pedals.

Compression springs.

A compression spring is an open-coil helical spring that offers resistance to a compressive force applied axially. Compression springs are usually coiled as a constant diameter cylinder. Other common forms of compression springs-such as conical, tapered, concave, convex, or various combinations of these-are used as required by the application. While square, rectangular or special-section wire may have to be specified, roundwire is predominant in compression springs because it is readily available and adaptable to standard coiler tooling.

Compression springs should be stress-relieved to remove residual bending stresses produced by the coiling operation. Depending on design and space limitations, compression springs may be categorized according to stress level as follows:

1. Springs which can be compressed solid without permanent set, so that an extra operation for removing set is not needed. These springs are designed with torsional stress levels when compressed solid that do not exceed about 40 percent of the minimum tensile strength of the material.

2. Springs which can be compressed solid without further permanent set after set has been initially removed. These may be pre-set by the spring manufacturer as an added operation, or they may be pre-set later by the user prior to or during the assembly operation. These are springs designed with torsional stress levels when compressed solid that do not exceed 60 percent of the minimum tensile strength of the material.

3. Springs which cannot be compressed solid without some further permanent set taking place because set cannot be completely removed in advance. These springs involve torsional stress levels which exceed 60 percent of the minimum tensile strength of the material. The spring manufacturer will usually advise the user of the maximum allowable spring deflection without set whenever springs are specified in this category.

In designing compression springs the space allotted governs the dimensional limits of a spring with regard to allowable solid height and outside and inside diameters. These dimensional limits, together with the load and deflection requirements, determine the stress level. It is extremely important to consider carefully the space allotted to ensure that the spring will function properly to begin with, thereby avoiding costly spring development changes.

Things to Do During Holidays in Nerja, Spain

November 24, 2009 on 2:15 pm | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

Nerja is one of the resort towns along Spain’s Costa del Sol or Sun Coast, aptly named for its clement weather and beautiful beaches. Because of this, it is a good idea to stay in a Nerja apartment and spend your holidays in Nerja while trying out the exciting activities it has to offer, like those listed below.

Explore the Caves of Nerja

With its remarkable stalactite and stalagmite formations and prehistoric wall paintings in halls with names like Hall of the Waterfall, Hall of Phantoms and Hall of the Lance, as well as the largest calcite column in the world, the caves of Nerja are truly worth exploring during your holidays in Nerja. You can also see the skeletal remains excavated from the cave in the museum just outside the caves or attend a concert or ballet performance in one of its large chambers.

Make a Splash at Burriana Beach

Like the towns along the Costa del Sol, Nerja has its share of idyllic beaches, which is why spending a day on the sand or in the warm Mediterranean waters is one of the things to do in Nerja. The most famous beach is Burriana Beach, located just fifteen to twenty minutes from the town centre, a blue-flag beach with many restaurants and excellent facilities, including a water sports centre. Take the plunge and go scuba diving or get your dose of excitement by surfing or jetskiing. You can also simply take a stroll along the coast, too, which is particularly a good idea if you’re staying at one of the apartments in Nerja nearby.

Enjoy a Stroll through the Balcony of Europe

The Balcon de Europa or Balcony of Europe is a wide palm tree-lined promenade built on the site of a 9th century fortress. If you want to enjoy the most stunning views of the city or the ocean, or catch glimpses of the surrounding mountain ranges and even the coast of Africa on a clear day, there is no better place to go to than here. You can also stop by the El Salvador church, dine at one of the fine restaurants on the Balcon or hire a horse-drawn carriage from here to see the rest of the town.

Volunteer at the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary

The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is dedicated to caring for rescue and retired donkeys, although you will also find horses, mules, goats, pigs, dogs and other animals in the sanctuary when you visit. This is one of the most rewarding things to do in Nerja since you can get a chance to help out by feeding, grooming and walking the animals, particularly the donkeys and dogs, aside from simply petting them. If you want to help out further, you can even adopt a donkey for a year. Don’t worry, you won’t have to bring the donkey home. You just have to make a donation.

Nerja at Night

Even at night, you can still have a lot of fun in Nerja. No matter where your Nerja apartment is, you’re sure to find a bar, pub or restaurant nearby where you can eat, drink, dance, socialize or even watch a flamenco show during your holidays in Nerja, although for the best of the nightlife in Nerja, you will have to make your way to Plaza Tutti Frutti and Antonio Millon where the parties go on until around four in the morning.

Learn Spanish

There is no better place to learn the Spanish language than in Spain, which is why you will find many language centers all over the country, even in Nerja. Most centres offer classes for different ages, with both beginner and advanced courses, and the best part is that they often offer excursions to the nearest cities and attractions so you can practice your Spanish while seeing some of the best sights around, so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity during your holidays in Nerja.

Indeed, you will find plenty of things to do during your holidays in Nerja and if you want a change of pace or scenery, you can always travel to the amazing attractions nearby. These are all reasons to rent a Nerja apartment, which will surely allow you to have a great time and make the most of your vacation.

Have you thought of your next holiday to America, depending on where you go, depends on if you take the kids!

November 23, 2009 on 12:29 am | In Travel Destinations | No Comments

America has always been the place of dreams, and when you look at what the country has to offer to us as tourists you can’t really “nay say” it. Florida, this is a good place for us to start this discussion, on holiday locations. Florida is considered the fun state of America, there is everything a family, couple, singles could want here, ranging from Theme parks to nudist beaches.

There is so much for us to indulge in, when we take a trip to America, Florida may give us the Theme Parks, and many of them it does have, but what is there for the adult community, that don’t like fast or scary rides. Without much doubt, you need to head to Nevada, a great location for those over a certain age. Now once you mention this state, people usually know what’s coming next, but if you haven’t caught on, then welcome to Las Vegas. Vegas, this is the place for those adults that want to have one hell of a great time, trying all kinds of different things in the city known as Sin. This is the Casino industry, the most powerful part of Vegas is gambling, and it is the main reason why many of us flood here in our millions.

How about the good old Fly Drive holidays, renting a car once you land in the West or East Coast of America and drive right the way through route 66. Of course you don’t have to just stick to Route 66, and it would be a long holiday, but there are some other fantastic locations to visit. San Francisco supplies some great Theatre performances, and it’s situated in the middle of the great wine country California.

Las Vegas holidays are a fun time for all, although not recommended for the younger of people (under 21), but Christmas holidays are upon us, have you decided what your going to do?
